Taking Care of Mommy Part 1: Cleaning Out The Closet of Secret Needs

by Stacie on March 19, 2009

postpartummommy-main_fullI have been fighting a sinus infection for the last 3 days. The first day, I was in total denial. “I’m not getting sick. It’s just allergies.” That’s what I say every time. Until that first sick night hits me, I’m still oblivious. I don’t have time to be sick. I have 4 children.  Being sick does not change my daily responsibilities. I cannot take the day off. Today is “Library Day”! So, we went. We brought home 2 full bags of books and videos (as usual).

Today, I am thankful for the God-given ability to persevere. It’s not just for me though. You do it too, or you will when the need arises. There is something supernatural that happens when we become mothers. We get a whole new set of gifts and abilities. We can persevere through sickness, unexpected events, rainy days, and sleepless nights.

Let us be careful, however, not to fall off of that pedestal;). We have needs too. We have needs that we don’t even know about. Or maybe we just don’t want to talk about them. We even feel guilty for having those needs don’t we? Well, it’s about time we clean out the closet of secret needs. This post is part 1 of many that I intend to write on the subject of taking care of yourself.

For further reading, check out What Every Mom Needs“. I pull this book off the shelf quite often. I think you might find it refreshing in this season of motherhood.
