The Birth Of A Mother

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born.  She never existed before.  The woman existed, but the mother, never.  A mother is something absolutely new.  ~Rajneesh

Every woman approaches motherhood from a unique perspective–her own life resume. Yet she becomes a mother regardless of education, experience, financial status, race, or religion. A woman does not become a mother simply because she wants to. She becomes a mother at the moment she receives her child–whether by birth or by adoption.

I have seen it happen over and over again. The birth of a mother is almost as much of a miracle as the birth of a child. All at once her dreams of what it would be like to be a mother have come to fruition. A woman’s identity is forever changed by another human being–in a way that even marriage cannot bring. It is an irreversible state of being.

The actual experience of becoming a mother is indescribable. Even with each new baby, there is a newness to motherhood. Yes, there is the ordinary dailiness of life that we cannot escape, but there is so much more.

Take a few minutes to reflect on your journey into motherhood. How would you describe it in one word? Take a minute and leave a comment below.

I’m so glad to be on the journey with you,

I suppose motherhood deserves more than one word:). I completely agree with “unexpected joy”. We think being a mom will make us happy, but actually it’s more than that. Being a mom gives us joy, which is far greater.

How about two words? Unexpected Joy. Deep, through your bones, joy.
